GramScraper vs Apify Instagram Scraper: Pricing, Speed & Coverage

GramScraper is a focused Instagram REST API. Apify is a larger automation platform. The better choice depends on the workflow you want to own.

An “endpoint” and an Actor input are different abstractions. GramScraper's count includes v1/v2, GraphQL-backed, utility, and compatibility route variants; it should not be read as 90 unique datasets or as directly larger coverage.

Pricing: credits versus results

GramScraper sells packs: 100 credits free, Standard at $29 for 15,400 credits and Business at $300 for 320,000. Purchased credits do not expire. Direct lookups commonly cost one credit, while endpoints that perform an extra username resolution can cost more; the docs show the exact cost.

Apify's public Instagram Scraper pricing uses a per-result Actor rate paid from monthly prepaid platform usage. When checked, the public pages listed $5 monthly prepaid usage on Free, $29/month for Starter, and an Actor rate of $2.70 per 1,000 results on Free and $2.30 per 1,000 on Standard. Higher plans listed lower Actor rates. Confirm the current Actor pricing and platform plan.

Do not compare $1.88 per 1,000 GramScraper Standard credits with an Apify per-1,000-result price as though a credit always equals a result. A GramScraper request may return one object or a page of items; Apify bills the Actor's defined result unit. Price a representative job on both services.

Speed: benchmark the workflow, not the headline

We do not publish a controlled head-to-head latency result, so there is no defensible “faster” winner here. GramScraper's interaction model is a synchronous endpoint request. Apify Actors are runs that produce results and datasets, and the platform also supports synchronous API patterns within documented limits. Startup, requested depth, pagination, dataset size, region, concurrency, and caching all affect elapsed time.

Run at least 30 representative inputs per workload. Record time to first usable record, total completion time, success rate, retry rate, and cost. Separate profile lookups from full-history collection. Use the same targets and requested fields, warm up neither provider unfairly, and report p50 and p95 instead of one best run.

Coverage and ease of use

GramScraper organizes Instagram data as explicit paths for profiles, user media, reels, stories, highlights, post details, comments, search, hashtags, audio, locations, and share links. That is convenient when an application already thinks in REST resources and wants a narrow dependency.

Apify's advantage is platform breadth. Its Instagram Scraper can collect several Instagram data types, while the surrounding platform adds scheduling, datasets, webhooks, SDKs, integrations, and JSON/CSV/Excel/XML exports. Those capabilities can replace orchestration code. They also mean more concepts to configure if all you need is one profile JSON response.

Which should you choose?

Test required fields, public/private account behavior, pagination, duplicates, failures, and total billable units before migrating production traffic. Neither product should be chosen from a feature table alone.
