Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator
Type a @handle to get the real engagement rate from their latest posts, with every post shown so you can check the math.
How it works
- Type a public Instagram username.
- We fetch the profile and the latest 12 posts, skipping pinned posts and posts with hidden likes.
- See the engagement rate, how it compares with accounts the same size, and each post's own rate.
How we calculate it
Engagement rate = (average likes + average comments) ÷ followers × 100, over the account's most recent feed posts. Pinned posts are left out because they are old posts that keep collecting likes, and posts with hidden like counts are left out because their likes can't be counted. At least 3 usable posts are needed.
We compare the result with a rule-of-thumb rate for accounts the same size. Small accounts usually have higher rates. "Typical" means within 40% of the figure below either way. These are our working figures, not an industry standard.
| Account size | Typical rate |
|---|---|
| Under 10K followers | 4% |
| 10K–100K | 2.4% |
| 100K–1M | 1.6% |
| 1M+ | 1.1% |
Questions
What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?
It depends on size. Accounts under 10K followers often see 3–5%, while accounts over 1M usually sit around 1%. The table above shows the figures we compare against.
Why is this different from other calculators?
Calculators differ in which posts they count. We use the latest posts, skip pinned and hidden-like posts, and show every post so you can check the number yourself.
Does it count views or saves?
No. Saves and shares are only visible to the account owner. For reels, where views matter more, use the Reels engagement calculator.
Can I calculate engagement for many creators at once?
Yes, with the API: a profile (1 credit) plus a page of recent posts (2 credits) gives you everything this tool uses.
